Next Years Students

My recommendations for next year would be to keep up with the work. Don't let yourself get behind because it can be difficult to catch up.

Another helpful hint would be to not be afraid to get a little demanding of the client on the client project. Don't let them just dilly dally around and not give you the information. If you bug them a little bit then they will respond.

Go to class is another hint.

Group work

I have learned that it is really hard to come together and spend an hour or two as a group. All of the group members have projects in most of their classes. This means that there are other groups that they have to meet with.

One of the biggest challenges has been communication with the client. I realize that this is a real world problem that myself as well as my other team members will deal with the rest of our lives. It can be frustrating, and you might end up putting together a project at the last minute, but you have to stick with it.

Dual Coding Theory

Dual coding theory is used in this ad because you see the language, practice like champions and we believe, then you process the visual stimulus. The colors and size of the words helps the words to stand out, rather than the door frame, or the brick wall. These two phrases are the first things that draws you attention to them when you look at it. You first read them, then you notice how colorful they are, and the two processes come together and make you remember it.

Miscommunication in Workplace

An example of when there was a miscommunication in one of my jobs is when I was doing tree work about 5 years ago.

I was up in a tree about 60 feet up when my boss tried to tell me something from the ground. I could not understand him because of the wind and he got a little bent out of shape about it. It could have been avoided if we were to buy these cool hard hats that have radio communications built into them. I would have been able to understand him clearly and he would not have gotten upset. It wasn't that big of a deal but it didn't need to occur.

Job Interview

I wasn't really nervous during my job interview because I have had to go through quite a few of them already in my lifetime. The only thing that I was nervous about was the other people in the room. I realize that this was a good thing because there is nothing that says that a job interview has to take place on a one on one basis.

One of the questions that threw me was the one about what questions would you like to ask me. I am used to interviewers asking the questions and I came up with a few on my own but I could use some practice in this area.

If I could do anything differently then I would have looked over a set of questions that I formulated to ask the employer. This would have prepared me a little better for this question.

I learned that Angela is really good at doing mock job interviews. I really thought that she did an excellent job at asking the right kinds of questions. It was a very positive experience for me.

Late Blog Sorry

The three presentations that I liked the most were Jamie's one about Gatorade, Julie's one about the Wild Horse Race at Cheyenne Frontier Days, and Emily's presentation about showing Dairy Cows.

I liked Jamie's because it was funny and kept me entertained. I enjoyed Julie's because I love rodeo and it is cool to watch one of these races go on. I also enjoyed Emily's because there is a lot that goes into showing cows and it is a big industry. It showed everyone that it takes a lot of work.

Cover Letters

I liked the part that said that you need to make your cover letter about the company and what you can do to help the company. Your resume should sale you but the cover letter should be well written to help them consider you for the position.

I did not agree with the part that said that resume's do not help as much as thought. I believe that if you send a company a resume then they will take the time to review it even if they are closely tied in with a college recruiting program.

The part that I found most helpful was the part about the mass e mailing. I do not think that this is a good strategy for the reason that if you send it out to hundreds of people, then you might get a response back from a company and not know anything about their business. I also think that it is impossible to make a cover letter that relates to how you will help each company if you send out hundreds of resumes.

Post for Sep. 21

I think that the best way to go about this Waterski Team project is the Google calender. It is easy to access and can be very easily updated and accessed by anyone. I also like the idea of a blog for the website.

Job Interview Articles

The first article that I read had to deal with how to deal with lay offs. I liked this article because it made lay offs sound like a positive thing rather than a negative. It said that you should make sure that you do not lengthen the time that you worked at a place to compensate for the time that you were laid off. It also said that you should concentrate on what you did while you were laid off. This has never happened to me and I hope it doesn't but when it does, I will be better prepared for it having read this article.

The next article that I read was the one about how to deal with poor interviewers. The most helpful part of the article was it told how to buy "face time" with the interviewer. This meant that if the interview was running short you could tell him how you complement the job you are applying for and ask to take a tour of the place where you are working and be introduced to the people that you might be working with. This will come in handy when I get ready to apply for a job because most Ranch Managers are to the point and they might make the interviewing process a little shorter than expected.

Ten Years from now. How can I start. i would like to be sitting on a horse managing a ranch at least 100,000 acres. I am planning on graduating from Clemson with my undergraduate in Animal Science in December of 2009. After that, I am going to either Nebraska, Wyoming, or Montana to catch up with some friends, make some new ones, and cowboy for a couple of years. I need this ranching experience because it is required to be considered for the Masters Program I am planning on attending. I will enjoy doing it, so it will not be too terrible. The Masters Program that I am trying to get into is the King Ranch Institute of Ranch Management. It is a very intensive two year program that is sponsored by the King Ranch. Texas A and M is the University that it is through and they are a very reputable school. After graduating from the program, I am going to try to find a job either at a ranch that I have previously worked at or find a new place to set down. In the meantime, I am learning how to ride bareback horses in the rodeo and will work on my roping skills. If my dreams change to include a professional rodeo career then so be it.

Video Response Post

I think that the title means that writing text it is not as interchangeable as digital text. If you write it down on paper, then you have to use an eraser or start over from scratch, or mail it to someone if you want them to see it.
Web 2.0 affects someone who is ready to enter the workforce because they will most likely be forced to use this type of system to communicate ideas and thoughts back and forth using software such as this.
It affects people who are already in the workforce in the way that they are going to have to learn this new way of communication if they are going to want to be fluent in the language that the "newbies are using" to communicate.
When they say that we will have to rethink everything, they mean that we are going to have to open our minds up to communicating in a new and unfamiliar type of setting.
